If selling online is the business, use Shopify. Inventory, variants, shipping rules, taxes, abandoned carts, payment providers, apps for everything. We do not compete with that and would not pretend to.

the actual question

Are you a store, or a business that sells a few things?

This is the only question that matters and most people answer it wrong, in the expensive direction. Running a Shopify store when you are really a service business with a handful of products means paying for and maintaining a machine built for a job you are not doing.

The test we use: if you stopped selling online tomorrow, would the business survive? If yes, you are a service business with a catalogue, and the site should be built to get you contacted, with the products as a supporting act. If no, you are a store, and you want Shopify.

We have made this call in the client's favour more than once. N3 Sales had a Squarespace store attached to an auto shop, and the right move was deleting it, because nobody buys a remote start install in a cart. Their revenue is appointments.

questions

Asked often

Can you build me a store at all?

A straightforward catalogue with checkout, yes. Real inventory logic, subscriptions or complex shipping, no, and we will point you at Shopify rather than build you something that half works.

Can I have both?

Yes, and it is often the right answer: a fast site for being found, with the store on Shopify, linked. Best of both and neither is compromised.

Is Shopify bad for SEO?

No. It is capable. The common problem is that store owners never write anything except product descriptions, so there is nothing to rank for beyond the product names.

What if I outgrow you?

Then you have a real store and should move to Shopify. Your domain is yours and we will help you go. That is a good outcome, not a failure.
