Nostedt Sites
vs WordPress.

WordPress powers an enormous share of the web for good reasons. It is also the platform we most often get called to rescue, and both of those things are true at once.

If you have a developer, or you are one, WordPress is more capable than what we do and it is not close. Unlimited extensibility, an enormous ecosystem, and no lock-in. The catch is that all of that assumes somebody is driving.

the honest framing

WordPress is software. You are buying a job.

WordPress is not a service, it is an application you are now responsible for running. That is a completely reasonable thing to take on if you have the capacity. Most small businesses do not, and nobody tells them that at the point of sale, because the agency selling the build is not the one who gets the call in year three.

The pattern is consistent. Year one: excellent, everyone is happy. Year two: a few plugins are behind, the site is a bit slower, the developer is less responsive. Year three: something breaks, the original builder is gone, and the quote to fix it approaches the quote to rebuild it.

That is not WordPress being bad software. It is unmaintained software being unmaintained software.

moving

What a migration off WordPress involves

The content moves, the URLs that carry search value stay put, and everything else gets redirected. The audit before the move is the important part: an older WordPress site usually has pages that are quietly ranking, and those need to be found before anything is switched off.

Your domain stays yours, your email is untouched, and the old site stays up until the new one is answering.

questions

Asked often

Is WordPress insecure?

Core WordPress is well maintained. The risk is the plugin surface and the fact that a public admin login is probed continuously forever. A maintained site is fine. An unmaintained one is a matter of time.

I like WordPress, can you just maintain mine?

That is not what we do, and pretending otherwise would be a bad deal for you. If you want to stay on WordPress, hire a WordPress maintenance service. There are good ones.

Will I lose my blog?

No. Posts move across and keep their URLs where they are worth keeping.

What about Elementor, Divi and the other builders?

Those are the hardest sites to maintain and the most common ones we replace. Page builders generate a lot of markup and tie you to a licence, which is fine until you stop paying it.
