WordPress is not bad. It is unowned.

Almost every WordPress site we are asked to take over has the same history. It was built well enough by somebody competent, handed over, and then nobody touched it for three years. That is not a WordPress failure. It is what happens when a piece of software that expects continuous maintenance is given to a business that never agreed to maintain it.

The bill comes due in specific ways: plugins fall behind and stop receiving security patches, an auto-update takes the site down at the worst possible moment, the theme depends on a page builder that now costs money, and the person who set it up has moved on.

The maintenance nobody quotes you

When you price WordPress against a managed build, price the whole thing. The build quote is the smallest number in the stack.

• Hosting that is fast enough to not embarrass you, which is not the cheap tier.
• Plugin licences, renewed annually, several of them, each one a thing that can lapse.
• Updates to core, theme and plugins, applied by someone who checks the site afterwards.
• Backups that are tested, not just configured. An untested backup is a hope.
• Security, because a public WordPress install is continuously probed by bots forever.
• Someone to call at 9pm when the site is white and you do not know why.

No plugins, because nothing to plug in

Our sites are rendered at Cloudflare's edge from your content. There is no plugin ecosystem, no admin login for a bot to attack, and no update that can break your homepage while you sleep. The trade is real and worth understanding: you cannot install an arbitrary plugin, because there are none. If your business genuinely depends on a specific WordPress plugin, we will tell you to stay on WordPress.

What you get instead is that the site is somebody's job. When something needs changing you ask, and it changes. When something breaks it is our problem before it is yours, because we are watching it.

What migrating off WordPress involves

We take your existing content, keep the URLs that have search value, redirect the ones that do not, and rebuild the pages properly. Your domain does not move unless you want it to, and your email is untouched.

The part people underestimate is the content audit. A five year old WordPress site usually has a lot of pages, and some of them are quietly doing real work in search. Finding those before you migrate is the difference between a clean move and a traffic drop.
